with windows XP you can set your background as a .GIF or an animated background...and now with me having vista..there appears to be no why to do this...Does anyone know if this can be done??? |

With Windows Vista Ultimate you can do it. I never heard of being able to do it with xp. |

Active desktop lets you do it with XP, but why you would EVER want to do it is beyond me. |

1 because it is cool 2 with xp just set a .gif as a background... 3 i have home premium and i found a way to do it with deskscapes X3...but it sucks, because i am to cheep to pay 20 bucks ot get the sull thing |

not really, the program only uses about 3% of my cup and 1% of my ram...it is cool and it is like it isn't there (CPU wise) |

3% for poorly implemented eye-candy is huge, but whatever. Have fun with your animated gif. |

I used to do it with XP but it's useless. There are hacks out there to enable DreamScene, a Vista Ultimate only feature, which allows you to play HD video as your desktop. It's pointless though and uses a lot of CPU power. If you like eye candy, give Linux and Compiz Fusion a try. Of course, eye candy isn't all there is to Linux. |

Considering when you open the start menu with Vista it moves you current window to the background and you can still see it if you open another Window. So if you have a dvd playing then open My Computer it will play in the background, this feature is pointless. |

actually the Dream scene came free with windows ultimate...you can get a free version but you have to pay for more scenes... i have the free one now. and am using thespinning globe that shows how the light on the earth looks according to what time it is, and it uses like no cpu power |

It is like those widgets on the side bar always connecting to the internet for the weather or whatever. It isn't a lot but it adds up. |
