Name that laptop.

Judging by the hinge, color, and placing of the peripherals, I'd say it was a macbook. The dual fans suggests that it's a pro, as well as the shape of the Motherboard. The Air is completely different, while the regular macbook has only 1 fan. The large flat thing in the front center I assume is the trackpad, which is too large for anything other than a mac.

I could just open my MBP, but I don't trust myself opening laptops.

I also say it's a MacBook Pro because you can see the metal used for the body behind the motherboard where the trackpad is sitting on. Also, the main parts of the motherboard seem to be on the top left side of the laptop (when assembled). MacBook Pro's get especially hot in this area. I am 90% sure this is a MacBook Pro, but I may be wrong.

but all of the micro tec in there is amazing. tha last laptop i looked at was in 2001 and it was alot different interms of the intricate and small components

It is indeed the 17" unibody MacBook Pro.

So wtd, did you buy one of those new MBP? If you did, how hot does it usually get when plugged in and on for a while? I have the older MBP (Early 2008) and when plugged in, it gets warm around the top left.

I doubt he bought one since the image is copied right off the site the serial numbers match.

Though I could be wrong. I've noticed the port which the power comes in that is where the battery heats up. Thus, for most laptop the top left being that area. Not, only MBP.

I understand wtd works at a mac-vending drugstore (?) and so can tell you all you want to know.

They have (sort of) non-removable batteries? I disagree with that! I would like to be able to bring a spare battery in case of a long plane flight or somewhere equally devoid of power outlets without having to remove the entire back piece and void my warranty.

Cue remark about the new MBP's massive battery length.

Even my current MBP lasts about 4 hours surfing the web/watching stuff. Programming and other more CPU-intensive apps reduce the battery down to at most 2 hours.

Post subject:  RE:Name that ___!

I can get 5 hours pretty easily out of my Dell (Inspiron 1520). Admittedly, I paid an extra $40 for the oversize battery (81 Whr). This includes programming on it, though running the most intensive apps will lower it to around 4 hours.

The lowest I've ever gotten that battery life to go is around 1.5-2 hours - and that's running Portal.

That's pretty damn good. Better than my old laptop, whose battery lasted a full 20 minutes.

Well, the battery is rated for 8 hours, so that's a plus. Additionally, by making the battery non-removable, they were able to make it larger, due to not having to have a battery "bay" and rugged housing on the battery itself. That is, they were able to make the battery larger without making the laptop bigger.

As for non-removable... it can be removed. You have to remove the bottom of the case, but that only involves removing about 11 screws (and there are only two sizes of screws involved). Once you've done that, there are about three screws to remove and the battery comes right out. I suspect that I could do it in about 2-3 minutes.

Yes, but could you do it on a bus, or plane? I would rather have a smaller battery that can be removed.

Not safely, no.

You say that you'd like the ability to swap batteries on a plane or train, but the number of people who actually swap batteries out on the go in real-life usage is incredibly low.

I am not exaggerating, I think it's a bad battery. It was a Compaq V2000 (the one with 1.8GHz AMD and ATI 200m).
