Vala is a language designed to make application development easier for GNOME/GTK+ developers. It is essentially C, with high-level concept support but without being D, Java, C# or C++. Wink

I think you just stole a fair piece of my Saturday afternoon wtd. Wink

I'm writing a GTK+ binding for OpenCOBOL ... now I have to go lookie see if Vala can accelerate that effort.

And initial lookies ... yes; now I know you've stolen a fair piece of my afternoon. Nice. Thanks for the heads up. Smile

Edit; SWEEET! Object Oriented without all the linkage name mangling. Woohoo.

$ valac --pkg gtk+-2.0 -c -o builder builder.vala
$ cobc -x `pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0` valacall.cob builder.o 

Done and running an XML ui file GtkBuilder generated TreeView from OpenCOBOL.

Edit; Whoa! webkit browser called from OpenCOBOL ... two minutes of work.
