o.k i am sure you are all well aware by now of the new windows 7.......what the f right.....



Microsoft sells us a $500 piece of crap OS and just to make it reasonable...we will call it vista and make it look cool (aka full of flaws and a waste of money) and expect you all to use it for about hmmm 1 year...but we aren't going to tell you that it is short lived.


ALL HAIL 2009, by now most people have just bought Vista....but wait...

IT IS REALLY COOL....SO GO OUT AND SCREW OVER YOUR NEW COMPUTER AND PUT ON THE BETA OS !!!!!! YEAH.

all in all windows 7 is really good. Me getting my dell studio 17 torrmrow, me hearing this...i guess you can all tell i am juuusssttt a little pissed
2weeks ago- O.K MIGHT AS WELL GO FOR VISTA *throws in $200 more into the over all cost*-----------------

(2weeks later) ...no....no....NO! .....your shitting me right?....am i being "punked" >.>.....<.< *checks behind t.v* (right here i would like to put words....lets say..addressing microsoft with some words of...hatred...i thought of over 50)


so the BETA is closing at the end of August,...guess what 3 MONTH LATER I AM GUESSING WINDOWS 7 READY TO BUY.....

heartily agree with you mate. It's almost enough to make me switch to Apple, I've had nightmares with iTunes though, that's the only thing keeping me out of Apple products

Are you complaining that Microsoft is releasing a "fix" for Vista, and would have preferred for them to stop all of their development instead?

But... you know that there's a new OS release every couple of years (ideally; Vista's schedule was horribly delayed), and Windows 7 was been announced quite some time ago (2007).

Alternatively you could go for a less expensive system and buy a Mac. Seriously. OSX (full-feature OS) retails for $130. As oppose to $200 for an *upgrade*, that I will assume is a flavour below Vista Ultimate.

Buying Ultimate is a waste of money. I'm quite happy with Home Premium, and I will not go back to XP. SP1 has addressed most of my gripes, and those were present due to Microsoft's inability to take criticism or properly test their product, but everyone makes mistakes.

I hope they've learned from Vista and will move on with Windows 7 correctly. First, I'll find someone who has it, and fiddle with it. If I like what I see, then they can enjoy my cash. I'm staying cautiously only because I bought Vista for my laptop when it was early, and I'll never forget "upgrading to XP."

If Microsoft gets this right, I'm willing to give them $200 for a Home Premium-esque edition, assuming it exists.

i would...but the OS is sooo different than Windows..i tried to fiddle with CS3 in the apple store in toronto today..... i got a nice smack in the face...ummmm WTH? i barly figured out how to open it


and if you look at W7 and Vista.... not much of a difference besides some new features and uses less computing power

A better idea might be to dual-boot the Beta onto your computer, and use it for the daily stuff. Perhaps not school projects, or music collections (because apparently there's a bug that messes up mp3 files with "large" amount of meta-data); but the non-critical tasks.

Microsoft has been releasing new versions of there OS about every 3 years for some time now, so i am some what suprised by peoleop being so upset about them coming out with a new version.

There was no outrage (or at least none that i rember) when windows 98 was relased about 3 years after windows 95.

Honestly if you decied to use a versioned operating system that is closed source and sold by a for profit company what do you excpet to happen? MS needs to make money and there business plan for it has been making a new OS every 3 to 5 years for a long time and other software companys do the exctat same thing. Even apple makes new versions of there operating system and expectes users to pay to upgrade to the new version (tho it may be cheaper).

If you are realy upset about it stop giving Microsfot money and switch to a free OS or at the very least just don't upgrade. MS will keep suporting vista for some time to come (they still support xp) and keep issuing patches and bug fixes.

How to open ANY app in a mac, spotlight, its gorgeous. Yes, you may have to play around with a new OS heaven forbid, it trys to make life easier and might need your part to go: "umm apple smart-ass dude, might showing me a few things". Now was that so amazingly hard? I pray not.

I was referring to the retail version. Betas skew my opinion in the bad direction, unless they really blow me away (see: Badaboomit.com).

They have the added advantage of a 30% profit margin on their hardware ~.~

I found it difficult to make it through your "rant". Can you please stop spacing every sentence out in awkward proportions and using confusing sentence structures? Not to put you down but It will bring more value to your posts.

About the topic, I see no reason about being upset. You've known Vista has had a horrible set of reviews so why buy it now? XP is still strong, and 7 should make up for where Vista failed. Hopefully.

Old guy ramble
Welcome to the old-school world of personal computing. Smile Count yourself lucky. When I was wee, not only did the OS cycle year over year, the machines themselves advanced so fast that getting a brand new $5,000 computer was disappointing 10 days after purchase.

I've found the last half decade to be quite settled, yet not boring. There are still advances, but those advances don't obsolete the machines of the day before. The "good old" days were exciting and umm, expensive.

I'll also opine; new releases of Windows have lost a great deal of "new" feel (as an Old Guy). For that sense of advance and innovate, GNU/Linux can't be beat. Something new and exciting everyday and the sense of freedom becomes a powerful thing. Don't like Debian? Try Gentoo or Mandriva or ... Don't like Gnome; try KDE or XFCE or ... It makes your computer "your" computer again.

Not the biggest rant of all time, no. However, there is enough punctuation and capitalization in the original post in order to make it seem that way.

The way the free market works is simple: If you don't like a product, don't buy it. If you don't buy it, the company makes no money off of it. If they don't make any money, they will not continue to develop it.

Note: Currently in the US this is not the case, you just apply for a bailout in the order of billions from congress and you'll be fine.

Vista has been out for 3 years, not 1. I've known about Windows 7 since December of 2007. If I was you, I'd Google various technological things every now and then, listen around, and you'll pick up on releases, betas, studies, experiments, etc. much sooner. And I have to add, your posting quality has been very poor, please pick it up a bit to meet compsci's standard.

I'm not so sure about that. "27 News Troubleshooter: Woman blames Dell for missing online classes" tells the story of a woman who bought a Linux box and then had some problems trying to use it for her on-line technical classes.

Though there are some other Linux tales out there if one wants to find some amusements.
