both of these computers are netbooks. Netbooks are small laptops designed for work purposes

The specs on both are almost exctaly the same however it's hard to be sure since some data is missing it seems.

I am assuming you want to use it for "work purposes" so video and speed do not matter that much.

The first one is slightly smaller, cheaper and looks better. The first one can also be ordered right now well the 2nd is not aviable till the 15th. So i am going to have to go with the 1st as it is cheaper and they both have the same specs from what i can tell.

The most important thing in a netbook (and laptop in general) is battery life. And since that information is not available from The Source... look elsewhere when comparing.

Post subject:  RE:which computer is better

the idea i had for it was something i really could use for being on the road, at school (for some reason we have a population of over 2k students but only about 20 computers accessible at lunch) or away from home.

That being said i wouldn't run out and spend 2k on an Alienware M17X weighing in at 10lbs, 17" screen huge beast of a computer for "work" so i was looking for something small, light, good battery life, and not too slow.

Although being able to do some web surfing, audio creation and possibly playing low-end games would be nice...it isn't the focus that i have right now.

Currently i have a single core 2.6ghz 512mb ram, really old graphics card (have had this machine for maybe 6-7 years) sooo anything is better than this.

Both of theses laptops are slower then that, tho have more ram. There cpu clock speed is 1.6GHz.

but the 1.6ghz is a dual core...does the "dual" really make a difference?

With that new data, it looks like number 2 has a bigger battery and bluetooth well the 1st has WWAN.

I did not see it say dual core any where. It is an Intel Atom, i am not sure if that is dual core or not and to lazy to check.

oops yeeeaaaa they are just atom processors. But since they are newer do you think they would be faster than the traditional single cores?

WWAN? hmmm i take it that that sucks based on that comment

No, it just seemed odd to have. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWAN

Toshiba makes absolute garbage when it comes to their other notebooks. I have no reason to think their netbook will be any different.

I cast my vote for the MSI Wind or Samsung NC10.

I disagree, I have a toshiba that's still kickin' after being spilled on, dropped constantly and generally abused like crazy..and it only cost me 450 bux open box from future shop about about a year and a half ago

When I was at Costco, I checked out the Asus Eeebox (like the netbook, but a small Mac Mini-esque device) and it had a similar Intel Atom processor at 1.6 GHz, but it was dual-core. Maybe Some Atoms are dual cores.

In my opinion, A looks nicer and it's cheaper. I would take A. Razz

Just to add to that, there are also several suites that are fully compatible with Microsoft Office, perhaps even preferable? Examples include iWork '08, OpenOffice, NeoOffice, and many others.

As well, most universities have both Windows and Mac labs. Some even have Linux labs.

And although the Acer looks better and is a bit slimmer, Acer has never been one to focus on details ... such as quality. So I'd have to take the Toshiba.

I have Office Mac 2008 and TBH it's crap compared to 2007 on Windows. That's why I bought iWork 08 and I think that's a ton better. The only thing is that the spell and grammar check isn't as powerful as the Word one and Numbers isn't as good as Excel.

They had a 12" PowerBook a number of years ago. And, OO is compatible, there is even a Mac-specific port.

They cost about as much as they do for Windows. Which would be free in some cases.

Well Microsoft's Standard Office suite is $500, comparatively Apple only has one version and it is $80.
