Just finished Computer Engineering which uses Turing. Next semester I'm taking Computer Information Sciences, which uses QBASIC. I took a look at it, doesn't seem too different from Turing, so I think I'll make the conversion pretty quickly. |

Well... out of two, turing is better in every way 
Qbasic is DOS based, has weird syntax and not as powerful/functional. I didn't actually use it, some kids in my school did... and belive me, its crap. I though when you learn programming, you move farward, not learn something half-decent, then go back to DOS age to learn Qbasic...  |

Well, it's 2 types of courses. Computer Engineering uses Turing all the way to Grade 12, while Computer Information Sciences goes from QBASIC, to VB, to Java in Grade 12. Both use different languages, but Turing seems worthwhile to learn, cause it goes all the way to Grade 12 |

Actually there isn't that much to learn in turing. I knew most of it after half a year in grade 10 (1 semester) and was complaining about lack of many features all the way through second semester. Turing is only suppost to introduce you to programming, because you can't create commercial applications in turing for various reasons. I like the system we got in my school where you move from language to language and get to know each and learn more about programming itself. Qbasic - gr10 Visual Basic - gr11 C++ - gr12 (there might be Java too... There's still half a year of gr12 left) and since I'm still only in grade 11, I'll try to convince my school to make an additional course for my indipendant study in programming. |

I started turing in gr.11 and it was a new course in my school, that was about 3 years ago. It was also the first language I ever learned appart from QBasic and its ugly syntax which taught me nothing about programming. Now I am hacking my way thought C++ in college 8) Yea Turing is a great language for begginers, but after u finish the course and move on to Java or C/C++ then u will forget about Turing. C is a much more interesting language because of its complexity. tony, i don't think your school is gona teach C++ in gr.12, Java maybe, since these two languages have the same syntax, but C++ is more Object Oriented. |

maybe you didn't read my post correctly... I'm IN grade12 computer science course currently (although in gr11 is most of other courses). We're doing some Visual C++ though program council applications. We might also cover some Java after march break (LOL, then it'd be the 3rd programming languge we will learn in a SINGLE comp sci course) I love my class. Also next year I'll be taking computer science AP - most likely advanced C++. Or maybe C# if I'd feel like doing that |
