Well now you can! Attached is my .Xmodmap (you might have to rename it) that will enable you to do the same (and a bit more).

You will have to setup your Xorg to be able to toggle layouts on the fly. One way to do this is by adding the following line to your xorg.conf in the keyboard section:
code:
Option "XkbOptions" "grp:switch"
Then you need to run xmodmap with the attached file as an argument.

Now if you did the above then typing greek/mathematical characters is switched by the right-alt key on your keyboard. I particularly find this useful when discussing mathematical topics over msn. However both parties must be using utf8/unicode supported clients.

So for example right-alt + e = ε (epsilon)
