I need a laptop for university next year (computer science), what do you guys think of this laptop: Asus M51Sn-X1 Notebook PC http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=83%2C84%2C85,4251&webid=738018&affixedcode=WW that's from Staples I'm pretty sure it's what I want but I need some more input. (my parents are buying me whichever laptop I choose so price isn't so much an issue as long as its under $2000) Thanks |

Its a great laptop but you're definitely going to want a lighter one. Coming from someone who bought a 7.1lbs laptop, your back WILL hurt. If you're going to leave it at home, don't worry about the weight than. |

The Toshiba A200 series is utter garbage. TheSony NRs are perhaps the most unexciting notebooks ever made, but aside from lacking a webcam it's a better machine in every way than the Toshiba. For $350 less. In the same price range as the Toshiba you can get a Sony CR or FZ series notebook. |

I have no hands-on experience with Dell laptops as my employer doesn't sell them. I do have experience with HPs, and the consumer-grade stuff is rubbish on par with Toshiba, but with a less appealing warranty. |

I personally love the HP dv series. When I first got mine (dv4040) it was a little rocky at the start. But its been rock solid over the past couple years. I use my laptop more in a month than most people would use in a year and it hasn't given me any real problems. I would go with the HP dv6827ca |

Id recommend the satellite laptop. I have a really cheap toshiba satellite from future shop that i bought at the end of last summer for 400 (open box) and it works great. I have vista and ubuntu on it and do most of my work outside of home on it. I went uber cheap because i ruined my 5000 laptop spilling soup on it lol. But this laptop has been great. The only downside is in linux the wireless was a bit tricky to get working but once you get the hang of it, its not too bad. In regards to the vaio, my gf got one of those from her grandparents (about the same time as mine) and it died already...plus hers cost about 500 more than mine. |

I think it's a bit too heavy and the CPU is kind of subpar compared to the rest of the system. I mean 1.6GHz? Come on. My new MacBook costs $1300 and I'm getting a 2.4 Core 2 Duo. |

I just installed Linux on my HP laptop and it crashed ... it won't even turn on ... and I've only had it for under 2 weeks :S |

I got a pretty good deal in HP in the states (T9300 + 8600GS for under $1300 after tax). Buying online in Canada so far isn't worth it. |
