Aaahg! My eyes!

So what's it like? Is 800x480 enough to do useful work?

You don't always have to have that dual montior display with more pixels than you can shake a stick at md.

You know, sometimes I use my laptop; and it's only 1024x768. 'Course when I use my laptop getting things done takes longer...

Oh, and I saw a nice 30" LCD at costco today... me want!

Define useful work. Lots of photo editing, or manipulating a giant spreadsheet... it'd fall short, but for other things, it isn't a huge problem.

I only use my laptop, its a 14 inch screen at 1280x800

its where I get all my work done!
Although until I bought this laptop I was running 1024x768

I hate big monitors...its like spoiling yourself!

OMG, that's awesome. I have one too, only I put Xubuntu on it. It runs beutifully, but there are a few bugs and annoyances like having to use ndiswrapper for the time being. (There is going to be an open one in December, the last time I checked.) For the price, it's definatly worth it.

I can finally take a machine everywhere with me. Literally. It fits in my winter coat pocket!

Under GPL you have to give the code back to the linux comunity if you modfiy it at all. Like you have to post it for free to download.

However ASUS modifys GPL code for this laptop and does not post it anywhere or respond to peoleop asking for it.

Just google "eee gpl" for more info.

Here's hoping Asus sorts that out soon. Nothing is more annoying than GPL zealots whining about license violations.

On a different note, I have now tried out a spreadsheet I originally created pre-Eee on my desktop on the miniscule screen.

It works really frickin' well. I can definitely suggest it to students and professionals on the go who need to do some basic "productivity" stuff.

I cannot live without a 17"+ monitor. Anything lower than 1280x1024 or 1440x900 makes my mind bleed :S

Back in my day we used a TV as our monitor.

I remember those days; I had a 32" TV Wink Then we got downgraded to 14" CRTs... that hurt.

That is good to hear, it sounds now like it was just a iscent mistake on there part. I aucatly saw some one using one of thess "laptops" last night in class. They are admazingly small.

Now if they only did not use a distro of linux that sold out to MS in the hole MS linux patent debate....

And now I found, googling "eee gpl":

Quote:
In response to criticism from Linux enthusiasts, Asus has made additional source code archives available for download with code for the asus_acpi module, BusyBox, and several other components. The code released by Asus brings the company into compliance with its obligations under the GPL and should satisfy most of the critics.

The source code changes made by Asus are important because the availability of that code will simplify the process of making other Linux distributions perform better on the Eee PC.
---- http://arstechnica.com/journals/linux.ars/2007/11/27/asus-resolves-eee-gpl-violation-releases-asus_acpi-code-changes

Which is good.

The only thing I don't like, is why not use open hardware for everything since you're putting linux on it anyways? Oh, and of course the free software community doesn't like Xandros:

Edit: I missed the second page of this thread, and posted that link without reading it Razz
