Hi,
I have made a game based on the Metal Slug series for the Neo Geo.

My Metal slug game engine is almost done, just need to add more enemy's and tanks, find more object sprites and such. Also got to make the enemy do damage to the player , but i won't do that for a while because of testing purposes (can't test my game if i keep dying) Laughing .

Haven't had to much time to work on it, isn't close to perfect yet.

Added from previous v 1.1 :

Different enemy sprites
Bullet collision sprites
Enemy can die from grenades ( body explodes )
Enemy can die from gun (falls down)
Helicopter!!!
Helicopter Drops sets of 3 bombs at a time
- bombs have their own collision
You can now aim up with the 'up arrow key' and shoot up
You can now duck and shoot while ducking, but not move while ducking

Becoming more amazing each day Wink ! Good Work, though it would be nice if you oriented the object in a more appealing manner. Don show that yellow truck it clashes with the game and background. Just do a general walk through, you see what i mean. Plus few things you should add for the next release: damage counter, bosses, and possible a dialog box showing the mission status. Try incuding pickable items, and dont assume that there are infinate amounts of amo. Smile

Thanks for the suggestions (helped a lot), I'll get rid of the yellow truck, doesn't look that great, was just for testing collision purposes in the beginning anyways. I'm going to add 1 more weapon, that you start off with is, and thats the pistol. However it's going to take a long time because i have to get all the sprites and fix them up in photoshop , and theres like 40+ sprites just for that... As for the boss, i think ill make a unique boss for each level. When you get to the end ill stop the side scrolling, and let you move around normally, but the screen stays the same, and that's where you will fight the boss. I will limit ammo on the machine gun and grenades, but not the pistol. Also will add machine gun ammo pick up's and grenade ammo pick up's.

Also my next upgrade will include more enemy type's, more and better objects and objects that you can explode, just for fun Very Happy .

Where did you find your sprites? For my game everything was drawn in paint (except for the water and purple floor tiles) and that's a pain in the arse.

Anyway, this game really has the arcade feel found in the original. I like the attention to detail, how when you shoot, the bullets don't go straight, they sway up and down. You should add a HUD to make it really feel arcady.

Top left, as it is typical for most action games. It is also the most convenient since it doesn't interfere with what's in front of you.

Upgrade :

Had some time this weekend to work on it, and added a couple new things.

- Items, and objects that you can explode.
( only put in 3 items and 1 thing that you can explode for now, its a barrel that says 'danger' on it)
- Added a new type of explosion
- Added a HUD at the top left of the screen
( shows your hp, and shows how much ammo you have got )
note : when it says Inf. , it means infinite bullets, and thats when you have the pistol out.
- You now start off with a pistol, and can get machine gun by getting items through out the map. ( sooo manyyy spriteeees!!)
- Deleted the yellow truck, and put two new objects.

Getting better. Now if only the my Java version had this much progress. Laughing . I have to convert 100 sprites from bmp to png and then add a transparent layer to all of them using gimp. The explosion and the images with debris are a murder. Any way. Good update. Your game has become quite popular in our Comp sci class. Wink
