Last.fm is an Internet radio station and music recommendation system that merged with sister site Audioscrobbler in August 2005. The system builds a detailed profile of each user's musical taste, also recommending artists similar to their favorites, showing their favorite artists and songs on a customizable profile webpage, comprising the songs played on its stations selected via a collaborative filter, or optionally, recorded by a Last.fm plugin installed into its users' music playing application.

Whoever thought of this is a genius. I wish I were as cool as that person.

I liked the name "AudioScrobbler" better (the website, too). I stopped using it though, because my music collection is ridiculously small. 266 songs right now, and I plan to be taking some out.

EDIT: The small music collection thing doesn't really make alot of sense considering the purpose of last.fm, I should point out that it's because I can't always find artists with lots of music I'll love. Usually just a few songs I really like, and a bunch that I don't much care for. Then again, I really dig just about anything from Joe Hisaishi or Jonathan Coulton right now... couldn't hurt.

EDIT2: confusticate and bebother... everywhere I go people have stolen my good usernames.

EDIT3: http://www.last.fm/user/theBaconfish/ I'm going to sleep.

So last.fm is great. Everyone agrees.

Now, here's something else: www.pandora.com. It's a giant online radio station that plays music customized to you. To get stared, you give it your favorite song, and it will start playing songs similar to it. As it plays, you tell it whether you like what it's playing or not. You can create multiple stations for yourself.

It's got other features too. Looks like you can bookmark songs or artists, and listen to other people's stations.

I entered Year of the Cat by Al Stewart, and of the three songs that followed, two of them I had never heard before and really liked, and the other one I had just gotten myself, and really liked.

Cool!

Thanks, Amailer.
