Almost everything emits an infinite amount of waves, and all waves carry energy. So why don't all objects emit an infinite amount of energy?

well..lemme ask u the most perplexing question in quantum mehcanics...is light a wave or a particle?

a particle

light is a wave and a particle, its called duality

a photon

but it has properties of both a particle and a wave...

and the way it moves through the vaccuum of space is kinda wierd too... it like creates a magnetic field to travel through

Light is simply a name for a range of electromagnetic radiation that can be detected by the human eye...Electromagnetic radiation has a dual nature as both particles and waves.

and thus being...it is neither a particle nor wave...(dont bother discussing this..coz its not official yet...they are still running tests and experiments to determine)

dang lamer mods whith there imposiable question Twisted Evil

haha...

light is state.

difficult to explain this concept. but light does not travel.
That so called travel of light is really the change of state.

there's a lot more.. thats just something i picked up from somewhere.

rizzix, how would light get from a star to the earth without traveling any distance?

go into a dark room, turn on a flash light and direct it at the wall. Light has to travel to get to the wall, then it has to be reflected so you could see it. it can't get there without traveling as there is space between the flashlight and the wall and your eye.

yes light does travel (there are pictures of it)

you can also conentrate light to a point where it takes on liquid properties Laughing It sounds really awesome, too bad my school doesnt have the equipment to do some experiments with that.

I got a feeling I'll be hanging around waterloo's physics department and playing with their nice toys Laughing

lol that might be kind off cool to see... light as an liquid lol

naa i agree light is a wave and a particle at the same time...

it is also something that limits our capabilities. Evil or Very Mad

what I really want to see though is stuff at absolute zero Shocked

Author:  Tony [ Wed Jul 02, 2003 3:33 pm ]
Post subject:

absolute 0 is 0 degrees Kelvin, or -273.15 degrees Celcius. Something like -273 was achieved in lab conditions and absolute 0 is impossible (or so I think...)

anyway, its a theoretical number at which all molecume motions will stop and gas would have 0 volume... 8)

bose-einstein condensate (well thats three words)

I know what it is... but apparently crazy stuff is supposed to happen when it is achieved... I think in one test where they came close, hydrogen moved up hill (this is recalling from grade 11 chemistry... or maybe it was physics this year, dunno... either way it was a while ago)

Post subject:

what do you mean "moved up hill" ?

Author:  PaddyLong [ Wed Jul 02, 2003 8:23 pm ]
Post subject:

you know how things normally flow down hill because of gravity? apparently at absolute zero it went up hill... like there was no friction at all or something
