This game looks amazing. It is a space fighting game that utilizes procedural generation to create a massive galaxy with billions of planets. It's called Infinity. I've been following it for a while and it seems to be coming along very well. |

OMG have you senn the requirements for this! i'm sorry but i'll need 5 of my comps to get this thing ever RUNNING! looks kewl. hey, has anyone ever played Starflight before for the sega genesis? It looks kinda like this. You fly around in space, kill stuff, contact with other races, and destroy the crystal planet tahts making every star in the universe explode, eliminating all life and materials on the surrounding planets. it's a fun game, I still play it (OLd SkOoL). |

Quote: Minimum system requirements
These minimum requirements are only estimated and will probably change to something more accurate as the development progresses. * CPU speed: Intel Pentium IV 2 Ghz or AMD Athlon 1500+ or equivalent * RAM size: 512 MB * Video card: a graphics card supporting pixel shader 2.0 (ATI Radeon 9500+, NVidia Geforce FX+) * Disk space: at least 2 GB * Internet connection: 56k modem * Operating system: Windows 2000 or later Thats not bad for requirements. Your missing out ![]() Yes I know what I'm missing out on and it isn't much because my neighbour has high speed for about 10 hours a month and it's almost triple the cost of my unlimited dial-up. I just don't think that paying triple for high speed is worth it for playing a few games where sometimes you have to pay for a membership. Anyways if this game all of a sudden needs high speed instead of that 56kbps connection my computer is already set up for it so it's almost just a matter of connecting the wires. |

p4 is outdated. no real game would use one for a new system 512 ram is nothing. my laptop has 2gb ddr2 samsung @ 533mhz stock you dont need a 10krpm hdd for gaming if you have enough ram. and if you get one, that should be your primary drive 160gb of storage is gona bite you in the ass sooner or later. your x1600 does not run at 800mhz. the GDDR2 vram does your broadband does not run at 10mbps.. your nic has a theoretical bandwidth of that much chuck your 10krpm drive for a better cpu and more ram. and build it yourself instead of getting someone else to do it |

I know that some games that will be coming out in the near future will only support dual core processors and later on will only support SLI and quad SLI video cards. I think that's a fairly good deal for a computer but if your looking for something for gaming I wouldn't go for it andjust look at it Andy's laptop has more ram than the computer you want to buy and some desktop computers now can support 8GB of RAM. Also you should really have the faster drive for your primary drive and your system will work slightly faster but no by much. |

Damn I can't find the article anymore. Oh well if I find it again I'll send you the link and it was just an article so it could be off by a bit on it's dates. I know somewhere in the wiki about SLI I think is says someting about gaming here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scalable_Link_Interface. Also if you read the system requirements and the FAQs on the Infinity website I'm pretty sure they say it's recomended to have a dual core processor. I've also heard on the Bungie website that their PC version of Halo 3 is going to have some major system requirements but I think that it's just a rumour. |
Author: | [Gandalf] [ Thu Oct 12, 2006 12:06 am ] |
Post subject: | |
Look, anything can be "recommended", but there's no way SLI is going to be neccessary for a significant amount of new games in the foreseeable future. By the time game requirements become that high, I'm sure they'll already have 5 new graphics card technologies that more than meet those requirements. And nowhere in that article do they mention games needing SLI. SLI optimized games yes, SLI required games no. Same thing with dual cores, though to a slightly lower extent, since it's definately possible that dual cores or similar will become the standard in the near future. |

Post subject: | |
not to be bragging or anything.. but i think i would know. some guy from my team pretty much invented SLI. games will never be labeled SLI only, because it doesnt make sense. OGL and D3D are on complete different layers than video drivers. To the game programmer, its the same programming on SLI, Crossfire, or just a single gpu. It's the driver that handles all of the top bottom rendering and surface flipping. Infact, you cant even really optimize a game for SLI... unless you can somehow strictly draw on the top or bottom of the display each time. |

It's barely broadband. it is not just the LAN or WAN runs at 10mb/s, it's the actual internet connection speed. ... Next time, apprecialte the lonely teenager taht makes minimum wadge and still lives in his parents house. I asked if they can help me get this one but they can't afford to help me get it. Then i heard this deal come up and I said well, it's a start. A 4 terabyte external hard drive would be even better but who's going to pay over $3, 000 for it? As long as it suits you and what you may be doing for the next couple years or so it's a good buy. As for changing CPUs that's umm... a little harder than you might think. Most motherboards that come with computers will only support one type of CPU such as on my PC the motherboard (and chipsets) will only support a pentium D and nothing else. There are some motherboards that will support two or three different types of CPUs but I'm pretty sure they don't come stock with most computers. As for being a teenager and living in your parents house I'm in the same position and I do have a part time job just like you and I had to buy my computer 6 months ago on my own but the trick is I was saving for a year before that so I had the money to buy what I wanted and make sure that what I buy will be good and will be with me for the next 5 or 6 years. |

Silent Avenger, its not about what type of cpu, but about the socket. if the cpu is same socket, and chipset allows for the speed then everything within the range will run perfectly. |
Author: | Silent Avenger [ Thu Oct 12, 2006 6:00 pm ] |
Post subject: | |
Yes Andy I know it's not about the CPU but the socket itself. I'm not sure if I got my post messed up again with using motherboard as a general erm for the socket and chipsets. But I was talking about how my computer will only support pentium Ds and that War_Caymore should check if his motherboard will support different types of CPUs which means a socket which supports different CPUs. I also said that there are some motherboards that will handle different CPUs therefor they have the chipsets and sockets that will take on different types of CPUs. There I think it's clear this time but if it isn't just tell me. |
