not so much; mostly it's there to keep it out of the way; I might even remove it... [edit] I very rarely do anything in the way of writing; that's what I have a computer for! |

Once I find a camera. I'll take some pictures of my desktop. CompWiz333: Does the fan on your CPU spin at all? It doesn't look like it's spinning yet your machine is on. |

It's probably just that the shutter speed is so fast the fan seems not to me moving |
Author: | apomb [ Tue Sep 12, 2006 10:59 am ] |
Post subject: | |
timmytheturtle, it definately spins ... the excessive noise is proof of that >_<! haha cornflakes right, the camera's shutter speed just stopped it from blurring, its kinda cool looking like that. |

it's still sept; so ![]() It's much more impressive to watch then it looks in a screenshot; compiz in all it's glory running natively in X (new nvidia drivers rock.) Yes it kinda looks like vista; but I like the theme. |

it's still normal X; everything X does this does. The new nvidia drivers (still beta) mean you don't need to run xgl in order to get all the benifits of compiz. |

Is what hte case? If you update your kernel so that it's incompatible with teh nvidia drivers interface of course you'll need to recompile your nvidia drivers. However the nvidia-beta drivers install just like any other nvidia driver (with a few patches...). After that it's just a matter of getting compiz installed and linked to the nvidia GL libraries. I'd post how I got it working, but I don't rightly remember (there was a lot of experiementing); and it's different for most everyone. |

Holy shite, I want in on this! |

Mazer; find an ebuild for the new nvidia drivers and get them working; then get the xgl-coffee overlay (as per the gentoo wiki) then you'll need to edit hte ebuilds to use the system libGL instead of it being hardcoded to xorg-x11 (I'll tell you how on irc if you want) plus you need a couple of patches; then it's just a mattter of getting the packages. I've discovered that it runs great at first but slowly slows down. Not entirely sure why, and I dunno if it'll go away if I use it more. It's just that after leaving it running all night when turned my screen on in teh morning things were strangely slow. Oh, it also does some really nice switcher things; kinda like apple's stuff. |

hmm, old pictures don't count. Nope, the contest is messiest physical desktop (in it's natual state; must be usable), nad messiest virtual desktop (which I think goes to rdrake). Contest is open until I decide to close it, and it starts now. Prizes are 1 (one) bit for each winner ![]() |

lol, one of my teachers Remote Desktop'd to his home desktop, and i wasnt really paying attention, so i didnt know it was his, right, and it looked almost as bad as rdrakes, and i was like "wow, someone doesnt know how to organise their desktop!!" like REALLY loud, and he quickly closed the terminal, and everyone kinda looked at me, i was left wondering what all the trouble was, until my freind caught me up to the situation, i laughed out loud. ... thats one thing i hate about windows, so many icons on the desktop. |
