I was working on a hybrid algorithm that is a cross between the above two in my first work term(rigid CD of two surface meshes)... pain in the ass

What do you mean by a "rigid CD of two surface meshes"? Like, where does the cloth fit in?

cloth is represented as a triagulated mesh. stuff like force are attached as a per-vertex attribute.
