Stormy Orb Tutorial

Hey guys, heres another tutorial, one of my personal favourites. Sorry its kinda long lol. here we go


1. New document (500x500)

2. Filter > Render > Clouds

3. Filter > Render > Difference Clouds

4. Press "Ctrl+F" to repeat the Difference Clouds Effect. Press this about 20 times, until you get a rigid look similar to this.

5. Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates (Rectangular to Polar)

6. Use The Eliptical Marquee to Make a selection around the "Sphere" part of the canvas.

7. Now Right-Click inside the selection and select "Layer Via Copy" (This will copy the sphere part to a new layer)

8. Now select the top layer (Your "Sphere only" layer) and go to the "layer styles" and use the following settings:

Outer Glow:

Inner Glow:

Gradient Overlay:

Pattern Overlay:

Stroke:

9. Now to add color to our Orb. Press "Ctrl+B" to bring up the Color Balance Options, and use the following Settings.


For Midtones:

Cyan: 100
Blue: 100

For Highlights:

Cyan: 75

10. Now Set the "Blending Mode" of the top layer to "Vivid Light"

11. Now Make a Shine on the orb.

OK, that really is quite nice. But I think the shine might be a bit too much. It looks as though the ball is emitting light. Could you make it glow (blue) and make it less reflective looking?

Ah, now I get it. The shine was covering up the seam Razz

hehe Very Happy. Well everytime you do the difference clouds it always goes random. Sometimes theres no seam, sometimes there is.Darn bad luck lol

There's gotta be a way. Perhaps some strategic blurring could help?

And since clouds are random, I doubt you could get it the same way as the original pic o.O keep trying Razz
