"Should we add a Google-like search engine but twice as good hard-core into Windows? Guess what. If we did that, I don't think a company called Google would be very happy" link (link edited for the sake of people who don't use andy's sig to set their browser window size) |

I don't care what they bundle into Vista. As long as it can be turned off. |

That's the point, you can't. IE is integrated into the OS. That is actually part of the reason why Windows is so redicilously vulnarable, as exploits in the browser open up access to the OS itself. |

I renamed messenger. Out of sight, out of mind, at least. |

You can remove messager by doing somthing to the regsitry so it will show up in remove programs. I forget the excat regsitry key at the moment but i am shure it is easyly findable with google. Tho this was b4 some big windows patches so it chould have been "fixed" by now. I hate IE so much, i wish like linux u could download and install your own file browsing applications that whould replace it. |

i find nothing wrong with IE and msn =/ I mean, why would you want to remove IE? After all, it is the *only* broswer that works with windowsupdate... (good job, MS) |

I will take it as if you were being sarcastic about IE. But if you were not, then you need to see a list of 10 pages on how IE sucks. |

Do you mean your Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger? |
Author: | md [ Fri Mar 03, 2006 9:20 pm ] |

Windows messenger can be removed using the add/remove windows components part of add/remove programs. It's super simple. |

Don't know about everyone else, but when I first installed Windows XP I would get messenger popping up every time I logged on. Couldn't remove it, and the only way to stop it from starting up was renaming the .exe to .crap (not in startup, checked a bunch of registry keys, nothing). I find that, about IE, I agree with bugzpodder. Another one of their forceful control schemes. |

go to control panel, admin tools, then services, and disable messenger from auto starting |

I think the messenger gandalf is refering to is either MSN messenger of Microsoft messenger. The "messenger" service is actually something else; though it should definitely be disabled (and is with SP2). |

it would be interesting to see if ms really overtakes google in 6 months or if they are just bluffing. and no, you can install msn messenger on your computer if you want. there is no problem in removing it. |

lol, even if they doesn't, it would be interesting to see what kind of search engine they come up with. |

Yeah, but until they do, this is pure FUD. They talk up what they might have in 6 months time and say it'll be (insert really impressive number) times better than the competition. If they can actually produce it, that's great, but what they're going for is to scare businesses away from making any investment in Google for fear of missing the boat. |

I can't comment on the search results themselves but I dislike the way it puts all the results into one dynamic page since it doesn't allow for extremely fast scrolling. As well, the way they include links into the results requires you to ctrl+click to open them in new tabs(at least in firefox) which is rather irritating. |

I always keep the "force links to open in tabs" option checked in firefox. |

I tried to find compsci.ca on the Live search engine... I tried things like "Show me the biggest turing forum" and etc it was confused with Alan turing, so i changed the query from turing to winoot, but didnt get any results. Finally I entered: "a forum on turing the programming language" and it gave me compsci.ca as the second query result. On google, that exact same query yielded http://dmoz.org/Computers/Programming/Languages/Turing/ as the second query result. Behold, when you enter that site, you'll see compsci.ca the first entry is wikipedia's turing page. Somebody go change that page to add compsci.ca to it ![]() |

The Alan Turing article links to a Turing programming language article, and that links to compsci.ca. |

Yeah, that scroll bar is horrible... As for finding compsci.ca, I had to enter "computer science canada turing" to get it as the first result. |
