i want to format my C: drive but when i type it in cmd prompt, it tells me that i cant lock onto it since im using it i cant switch to another drive since i have only one partition so how do i format it? |

pop in ur windows xp disk and format using that |

Or insert a blank diskette. Go to My Computer, click right click on the A drive, and select format. Check the box that says something about creating a DOS boot disk, then OK. Once it's finished, reboot the computer with the disk inside. Type in "format c:" and it should reformat. |

You can't format over your drive while you have Windows running. |

That's how to corrupt your hard drive. That's something you can do within the windows environment without a magnet. |
