Mozilla FireFox 0.9.3 released

Intresting, their getting more and more secruity bugs Sad

eh, this code below is suppose to make browsing faster for people who have fast connections..(got it from the first link)

Installs pretty quickly compared to some other software I could mention.

I just installed it now, took about two minutes to download and install. No rebooting necessary. Painless improvement.

Btw, add this into your user.js if you have a fast cable connection, it sped up Firefox significantly for me:

// Force frames to be resizable
user_pref("layout.frames.force_resizability", true);
// This one makes a huge difference. Last value in milliseconds (default is 250)
user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 0);
// Enable pipelining:
user_pref("network.http.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.proxy.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", 64);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining.firstrequest", true);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections", 128);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 48);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 48);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server", 24);
user_pref("plugin.expose_full_path", true);
user_pref("content.interrupt.parsing", true);
user_pref("content.notify.backoffcount", 5);
user_pref("content.max.tokenizing.time", 7250000);
user_pref("content.notify.interval", 750000);
user_pref("content.notify.ontimer", true);
user_pref("content.switch.threshold", 250000);
// Stop reusing active windows:
user_pref("advanced.system.supportDDEExec", false);
// More DOM/JavaScript options
// Make sure all pop-up windows are resizable:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable", true);
// Make sure all pop-up windows are minimizable:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.minimizable", true);
// Always display the menu in pop-up windows:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.menubar", true);
// Always display the Navigation Toolbar in pop-up windows:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.location", true);
// Always display the scrollbar in pop-up windows:
user_pref("dom.disable_window_open_feature.scrollbars", true);

If it doesn't help you, just delete it from user.js again or adjust the settings. Firefox by default seems to be configured for the "average" user, this will make it take more advantage of fast connections.

firefox is still a new thing.... they are still in progress of making it PERFECT.... just wait... firefox's team seems very devoted and very good workers... they will achive perfection... thats prob why they are making so many updates...

hell... microsoft prob has a lot more... but they just dont wana admit it.. cuz then they have to work to fix it Razz

firefox is still and always will be more safer then IE...

cuz... pop ups are the ones that will cary viruses ( yes... from underground sites,...) one pop up leads to another... and another ... then a virus or hacked browser.... firefox's searching and homepage never get screwed up for me.. unlike IE

blocks a lot fo those security warnings (from gain etc)

Face it, Internet Explorer stopped updating a long time ago. Netscape is basically just patching it's own browser with mozilla updates (and even now it's stopped updadting indefinetly). Firefox is the only browser out there that's still working on itself.

(Although I've heard rumors about IE 7 -- I really doubt it'll be that great of an improvement.)

IE is still updating... i think there was an update some time ago, hmm

yea.... just wait..if theres ie7.. it will also have tabs... just wiat and watch..

firefox's team is very active.. i dont think theyll ever stop updating..

has anyone here tried that cable speed booster thingy?

did it work for any of yu?

btw ... try this one out too

run a couplete test..

and under AUTOFIX category... download the internet speed one.
it boosted me a bit i think..

* unless u download autofixes... pcpitstop will do NOTHING do ur computer setup..

its wicked tho... shows hard drive health... gives suggestions.. CPU performance... internet performance... rating aginst others...

all around really good site... and registration is not needed... but i recoment so u can track progress and see if u are improving ur score etc..

Actually I tried the speed booster code, cleared my cache' and weant to newgrounds, compsci, slashdot, ect... all loading very, very fast. I'm impressed. I'm actually saving this bit of code onto my next backup DVD, it'll come in very handy.

instead of opening hotmail or outlook to send mail (when u click on a mailto: link...) it opens a gmail compose window!!!!!!!!!!

just show all extensions and go to page 6

ok i cant edit all.js or user.js for some of u

when i open in notepad its fine... as soon i as i save.

it turns this:

into this

so i did all the settings manually in the about:config thing and using the filter..

i noticed 3 or so options that are in taht speed booster code do not exist... so if ur doing it manually.. dont streess... their just not there

also i think its made it faster.... enjoy.

best bet... COPY that file as a backup somewehre else

i had to redo all my settings 3 times and reinstall firefox cuz of it ?>

then i thought of backing it up

since i could not open the file and then just save in a new location either.. cuz notepad being screwy
and i tried in wordpad... same effect

maybe its cuz im using hte windows 98 version of notepad.. me dont know.

only flaw... if u put ur password wrong it will continue to say logging in forever.... until u press cancle and redo it again but with the correct password..

so comented lines

This isn't really going with the flow of the rest of the topic, but I'm having an issue with Mozilla. JavaScript works just fine and all, but Java does not work. I went to about:plugins and it said that Java was installed properly. I've tried a few times to reinstall Mozilla and Java, but nothing has worked.

Any help?

PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 10:42 am   Post subject: (No subject)

its possible. i've had problems as such before.. well on windows anyway. this is another reason i prefer a mac to a win. cuz the macs have standardized the location of browser plugins.

in any case try this.. uninstall java, firefox and mozilla. then download and install mozilla then firefox, and then go to and install java (but if ur a java developer then i'd recommend look at the Java Tutorials and Java Help section and u'd might be able to find some stuff on installing the JDK

PostPosted: Thu Sep 02, 2004 3:03 pm   Post subject: (No subject)

another good etension for firefox... AdBlock.... works good.!

blocks pictures themselves.. not the host it came from *well u can already do that with firefox...).. or block iframs...... good stuff!!!

WARNING: do not use gmail compose.... for one: didn;lt work for me.... for two... when it was installed... holding ctrl while clicking on a link did not open in new tab.... i had to remove it for that function to work again...

yea.,.. JAVA is a biotch.... . they dont offer the pluging seperate no more.. u have to install the 60mb JRE isntead.. Sad and for ppl like me with only 2gig hd.... it gets rough,...

so i need to use stupid Ie for playing JAVA games... and geocities..... Sad

hint: if u hate having those stupid security warnings... like gain etc.... u can go into advanced options and uncheck 'allow site to install software"... u just gota recheck it again if u want to install any extensions for firefox tho....

thought i would share some of my findings with the rest of compsci folk to make firefox more enjoyable!

PostPosted: Fri Sep 03, 2004 11:40 am   Post subject: (No subject)

java plugin is only for i.e

u need to install the complete JRE for other browser support and for running java apps locally
