Turing for Mac/Linux

Hi,

I just started turing in high school and i was wondering if anyone knew if there was turing for Mac OSX or linux seeing as thats all i have at home. I would not like to resort to virtual machine or dualbooting.

No, Turing is only available for Windows.

There is a mac version of turing witch was sold for a short period of time but i have never been able to get my hands on it, however even if i did it would be a very out of date version and not much use. Also Dr. holt has told me that there does indeed exsitce a comand line version of turing for linux however it is rather striped down and has never been realsed to the public.

There are also DOS versions of turing witch can still be found but they are out of date and the comands are some what diffrent as they moved to a OPP desing.

The best way to run turing on linux i have found is to use WINE and a newer copy of turing. You could also use a emulator of some kind.

OpenT is not officaly dead just there is not much entiumtism in making an open source version of a dead programming langue.

Also the main peoleop behind it do not have much time to work on it.

What I use when I am just trying to run a windows program on my mac is Crossover

You get a 30 day free trial and its not without its kinks but its pretty useful for running a windows program alongside your mac programs

Well, Turing runs perfectly fine in Wine* (which is what Crossover is based on), but only Wine is completely free and open-source. The only thing is that since Turing is a relatively crappy language, and it isn't optimized very well, it runs slower on Linux/Mac with Wine than Windows. The best solution I can see is that you learn another language. If you need Turing, then use Wine.

* It is Wine in Linux. The Mac version of it is called Darwine.

Keep in mind that you, obviously, can work on your source code in your editor of choice (TextMate w/ Pascal bundle should work well), at full native-software speed.

You Can get Turing working on Linux or Mac.

You will just have to get Wine and you will have to emulate it.
