I just finished a long blog post about Dynamic Pathfinding, which details in general a presentation on some pretty innovative and just published research about Dynamic pathfinding. It should help everyone thats had issues with pathfinding or AI. If you have questions, ask here or on the post. |

Somewhat off topic old guy ramble.
Back in my Waterloo days; Combinatorics and Optimization was a fairly new branch of math. Our "text book" was the professor's notes, photocopied and stapled together. Good class. Heady stuff. I've not kept up, but from what I understand the last twentyish years have seen many breakthroughs in the field.

Did the presenter mention any of the work done by Thrun and others at the Stanford AI Lab? Specifically, "D*" and its offshoots? It's meant for path planning in dynamic environments. (Not as useful in games as it is in robotics, but still cool) Thrun's the guy who ran the winning DARPA Grand Challenge 2005 entry, and I'm pretty sure it's his work that's on the latest Mars rovers. |

He mentioned Darpa and the road challenge, but not Thrun specifically. However, as I noted, they still have work to do on the path planning in dynamic enviroments(ie, changing goals, changing enviroments), so I'll mention that stuff to him.
He gave another awesome presentation on the "Modelling of culturally and emotionally affected behaviours." which was essentially about AI models that react because of cultural mores and emotional cues, ie, wants and fears. Very fascinating, I recorded the lecture, and I'm about to see how it sounds. Do you guys want me to put the audio recording of the lecture up, if it sounds good? |

I'd be interested in hearing; this is a possible avenue for thesis work for me. |
