well, if we are learning a new language, then we don't have to worry about the game now right? I mean wha's the point, just learn some basic syntax and be on your way.

well, at least we are not doing the game in turing...

would we be learning OpenGL then? If we have a game type final project then they should teach it to us.

yeah, they're probably not going to teach us any opengl. there are probably many simpler graphics libraries for c++ out there and there are probably even more stupid kids that are going to take grade 12 computer science. though i'm sure they won't stop us from using opengl for our final projects because that would just be gay with a capital 'gay'

what makes you guys think the course is gonna be graphics oriented? in my opinion, the course is going to heavily focus on syntax and algoirithms and data structures rather than graphics! The grade 12 course Mr. Smyth taught was like that! stuff i would expect in the course: classes, linked lists/queues,recursion, sorting, searching, structs, optimization,...

i wasn't trying to suggest/imply/assume that the course would be graphics oriented. but since the end of year projects tend to be games or at least slightly graphic dependant i figure people would need to know how to do graphics in c++ (or whatever we end up using).

yeah, I don't mind if we do algorithms and data structures and all that, but just like mazer said, unless we are doing some kind of programming challenge for final project, then it will most likely be a game, and what better than using OpenGL for the graphics for the game?

all will be revealed in due time......... oh btw dont go tumbling down OpenGL stuff just now (unless you are really interested -- to me that stuff isnt too much useful except in games of course, and i doubt that it will be taught in school -- it aint easy), b/c we might end up doing java or not doing either c++ or java. you never know... (i dont think turing and java supports OpenGl Very Happy)
