I'm guessing DS stands for data storage and DSI refers to digital signal interface... But how are we supposed to compare these two? |

I have them both and i think they are both good qaulity nintendo products and the DS has a masive catalog of games for it (esptaly if you count the advanced games it is backwords comptable with).
The bigest negtive for both is that alot of games over use some of the new features such as the mic, and try to use both the screen and the buttons at the same time witch makes for ocword game play. I still think they are the best handled console on the market right now.
As for DS vs DSi, the DSi is not a magor upgrade but it dose add a hard drive, 2 web cams, a smaller design and higher resoultion screens.
The new smaller design has some issues tho. As it is smaller it no longer has a place for game boy advaced catrages so it is not backwords comptable and the design it's self dose not feel as natrual to hold as the orginal DS (tho this is also a problem with the DS lite).
There are also miner upgrades to the speakers and mic.
One big thing that got to me was the new OS in the DSi supports WPA2 Encryption and downloading of games witch is great but the auctal games you play that have online modes only support WEP and WPA1 Encryption. It seems that parts of the old DS OS are embeded in the games (at least the wifi connection manager) so old DS games use the old DS manger with no WPA2.
The camara on the DSi is not bad, it supports several filiters and effects you can put on the images you take with can be entertaing for a few minitues. The down side is it makes an anyoing cmara clicking sound when you take a picture and there is no way to turn it off (it seems nintendo dose not want you to secretaly take pictures of peoleop).
The reason for the 2nd camara pointed at the player is that games can use it much like the EyeToy for the PS2. Right now the only game i know that uses it is Wario Ware Snapped witch is a set of minigames played using the web cam. It is a donwloadable game for the DSi, witch you can get for free with the free DSi Download points that come with the DSi. It is aucataly supersiing enterning and funny when you are watching the clips of you playing at the end.
The is also the option to trafser music to the DSi and play it back or record your own voice and modfy it. The dispointing thing about this is that it dose not support MP3s.
As i mentioned before the DSi has an upgraded OS that works much more like the Wii with a channel system displying the downloaded games and features you have as well as the bulit in ones. This is porably the bigest reason to get a DSi, the downloadable content as the camara and music options are some what limited.
So i would say if you allready have a DS keep it and don't buy a DSi but if you have neither and want to get in to handheld games then buying the DSi make sence. The real test of the DSi will be what kind of downloadable content comes out and how far they will push the new hardware (they had voice chat over an internet connection with the DS maybe video chat for the DSi?). |

I'll wait for my DS to break before I upgrade to a DSi. Sadly I have never had a Nintendo product actually break, so it might be a while.

Let's be serious here guys
the ds is basically the exact same as the DSi except for the camera and SD slot.
and the no gameboy advanced slot ... so no difference until the DSi has been suficiantly jailbroken |
