Here are some pointers:
1) keep ur avatar to a 100px X 100px
2) bring the "key" idea to the front, i.e the eye does not need to search for the message in the avatar.
3) unnecessary detail should be moved to the very back.
4) do not overload you avatar with too much detail
5) creativity (bring about a creative idea, like contradiction, contrast, abstract personification, hidden metaphors etc.. these thing really spice up an avatar, but are hard to implement)
6) no profanity or vulgarity (sorry if you do that ur not qualified)
well thats six |

just a question: are these suggestions or is compsci.ca gonna start enforcing these as rules? (meaning, the dimensions and the profanity) |

well not really... but if one's avatar is way too big or we just dont think that what's on it is appropriate, we gonna reset your avatar

man......
I missed the days when the bouncies were the #1 avatar....
when you go on compsci.ca, you would think you accidentally stumble upon a porn site... |
