All I can tell from those screenshots is that I'm going to have a lot of stuff to delete, or try to delete. Windows Media Player 10, IE7, MSN... At least they kept Command Prompt :|. Only improvement over XP that I could tell is that now they have "Lock Computer". One thing I could never understand about XP was why they had those annoying and hard-to-use templates. Personally, I immediately go to "classic view", don't know about anyone else... *edit* Hmm, it seems they also have double x, minimizer and maximizer boxes - should be interesting. Microsoft doesn't have to worry about that...they have no real competition. Apple prices themselves out of the market, and Linux is too hard to use for people to want to switch on a large scale (not that the Linux users care). Microsoft targets 95% of the market with their software. Nobody else does that (which is why Microsoft is in such a comfortable position). It looks like Microsoft is fixing the problems with the operating system. No. I simply pointed out (in a somewhat satirical way) that using every opportunity you can get to criticize Microsoft makes you come off as (to say the least) slightly ignorant. Notoroge just puts more love and time into his posts (+1 for effort!). Anyhow, I think longhorn looks OK, if my computer was able to handle fancy GUI's, I'd use them... but as it is now... it can't. Besides, don't automatically fooey on Microsoft, my computer hasn't crashed once (other than when I stupidly securing my harddrive with only one screw) since I installed windows XP. I also didn't get any devastating virus's (I download heavily, and I don't use a firewall or a virus scanner, the last I checked in the first scan in years on XP, I found 2 trojans... minor things). Am I the only one that thinks this is a major improvement from the days of windows 98... gah! the horrible memories... The point is, windows has improved, its easy to use (call me lazy for not wanting to try linux), and I really don't see the point of getting a mac, seeing as I'm not 1. rich or 2. a perfectionist of any kind. I'm just a normal computer user, not highly demanding. Windows is perfect for me... so microsoft isn't bad. Many say that microsoft is standing in the way of progress with its monopoly. See, the reason why MS and Windows are succeeding so much is because everyone has gotten used to Windows, and its only human nature to not want to change. Number of reasons. Something about being scared of trying out an alternative, and games. Some kids *need* their overclocked, water cooled, neon-glowing Windows box(es) to run their games at as high as 1/2 of the highest setting! It makes them feel bigger about themselves. I keep on trying to convey the message that girls fall for Mac users :wink: And no wonder, since a sleak iBook + ps3 would cost less than a Windows tower that makes fuses go pop! when that tertiary fan kicks in. But you see...then you'd have to put up with people making fun of you for owning a mac... And Notorage...Intel (and PowerPC) processors can all be overclocked. You don't have to. It's understandable, and perfectly ok. You've had a lot more experience with Windows. Even if you've been doing things the wrong way, they're habit, so they feel right. I get that. What would not be ok, for a person posting to compsci.ca is not being willing to leave that sheltered world of Windows. I'm sorry, I didn't know there was a right or a wrong way of using a computer (--unless you mistaken the floppy eject-button for the power button.. ._.;; I've seen that happen). It's a sheltered world based on simple facts that the Windows-users-group is bound by unspoken peer-pressure rules. It's not frequent to come across such _nice_ communities such as this one, who are willing to help people explore and learn how to use other OSes. Just because the majority of us have been conditioned into something so horrific and as apparently_wrong_ as Windows. It's become a comfort thing. Embedded into mainstream life style. Being willing to try is much different than being willing to change. o_o; But you see...then you'd have to put up with people making fun of you for owning a mac... lol why DO people make fun of mac owners/users?
