There is -- gdesklets for instance, which I think are prettier and more Gnome-ish, which is what wtd likes ;) I did a bit of research to see if there's any other hardware sensors for a desktop besides lmsensors, but it doesn't look like there is. As for sensors, lm-sensors ends up being simpler to set up than I once thought. There were a few problems with stability when I switched back to Windows a couple weeks ago (namely, RenderAccel was broken.)
