what i want to do is make a login screen to my webpage ..in which a username and a password are needed in order to continue to the home page...

most user databases require http://www.php.net and http://www.mysql.com databases. i don't think a lot of free hosts give mysql databases but you might find one.

phpMember is a really good member script. i have the file but i can't seem to attach it. :cry: i'm such a newbe but search http://www.google.ca for it because that's the simplest and easiest script i can think of.

most servers use apache, therefore accept .htaccess files (yes i know they're able to turn off those files, but most allow it)... check out [url=http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml]this page for a lil more info. it should be good enough for what you're looking for, its simple, and most servers accept it.
