Keystroke recording

-----------------------------------

Hi,
  I am after some assistance in finding a way to record keystrokes on my PC. Long story short, having some difficulty with kids, and want to record what is typed to know what is being discussed. Boyfriend is not the type you would want, and grounding isn't working. Is it possible to purchase anything, as haven't tried programming since a Spectrum ZX80 !.
Any guidance will be very much appreciated.

Hmm. First, I'm not sure this should be in in General Programming (unless you were interested in programming one), but you're new so I won't kill you. :D *Moved*

To answer you're question, have you tried doing a google search for a keylogger? The first hit turned up a free one. I've never actually used one but hey, it was featured on TechTV apparently. Worth a try!

couldnt you make just a crude version? kinda like
var chars : string (1)

var file : int
open : file, "whereyouwantfile", put

loop
    if hasch then
        getch (chars)
        put : file, chars
    end if
end loop

don't forget to tell your kids that you are in fact logging their keystrokes. Otherwise it could really backfire when they find out on their own and start logging you, without your aknowledgement :think:

Bacchus, I think it'd only get the characters if the Turing run window has the focus. And reading jimmyjoint's post, I'm sure he wouldn't have access to Turing anyways.

i used to have one that was undetectable...It doesn't matter Andy. You will not be allowed to use any information obtained using such a hidden app, thus making it obsolete. As in -- as soon as you quote your kid's IM, you're saying "hey -- I spy on what you do online... sorry I forgot to tell you before. While at it, stop downloading so much porn"

Might as well have a logger in clear view from that point on.

what u can do, is copy those install programs.. before u let ur kid on the system, make them read a warning, and check " i have read this blah blah blah and comply with the agreement in entirety" the kid prolly wont read it, and then bam, lol caught in action, for breaking two rules, not reading, and sleepin around or w.e

a signed agreement sounds like a plan.

Though afterwords you might have to brush up on your l337 5p34k. No problem -- [url=http://www.compsci.ca/v2/viewtopic.php?t=7827]Microsoft is there to help :lol:

Bah, if there's an unwanted boyfriend and you've already tried grounding, I don't see how keylogging is going to get you anywhere. :? Intimidate the boyfriend away and ur kid will probably get mad at you for a while. If she is the normal type then rebelling will only last a while ;) I've seen my friends get so mad... for a few days or so rofl :lol: all the determination down the drain.

One thing that might work even better is just to set up a linux box as a home router, and have it log all the data packets, although msn requires ssl for authentication, conversations are sent plain text i think. Another advantage is that you can lock the kids out of the linux box so they can't see what your doing if you don't want them too.

Have you tried simply reading the logs? MSN records them if you want, and most kids do want to for some reason (or because they don't know)

Just open MSN, go to the Options menu and find "Logging" and see where the logs are saved. Then just read what's been said so far, I guess.

Have you tried giving the kid reasons why this boyfriend is a "bad person?"

Spying would get me quite... angry, with my parents. I don't think it would be a good move, but hey, I'm not the parent here :p.

Invasion of Privacy, no matter what you find out through keylogging, this wont end well for you. No one takes that lightly when it happends to them, you should highly reconsider your plan of action.

I think the solution to this is parenting. I've never had a problem like this with my parents but everytime i've gone against them on something like dying my hair they keep refusing, and i grew out of it pretty quickly.
