Like ya, you think it's pretty cool when you see it in pictures, but when you actually play it, it's pretty amazing. A friend of mine had his buddy in Taiwan send one over, I don't even know the language and I love it. 300 bucks is worth it for sure, it blows DS out of the water. As for weight, I find it actually pretty light, and battery life is pretty good, nothing that I could see detering people from buying one. Definately, although Nintendo messed up with some game and, through a software glitch, it's possible to stream games from your computer and play them through the Gamecube. I really like the idea of encapsulated media (ie. UMD), but the weirdest thing about it is that there's no slip cover like on a floppy disk. The only problem I can see them having is with the price. Time will tell.
