----------------------------------- wtd Sun Oct 10, 2004 3:29 pm Just BASIC 1.0 released ----------------------------------- http://www.justbasic.com/ Thought someone here might find this interesting. :) ----------------------------------- Cervantes Sun Oct 10, 2004 7:42 pm ----------------------------------- It looks like they're going for something like Turing, what with the "Great for learning and teaching programming" bit. but it's only beta, and it's free, maybe it's good, can't say yet. waiting for my subscription :) thanks for the link wtd. Out of curiosity, how'd you hear about this? ----------------------------------- Genesis Sun Oct 10, 2004 8:12 pm ----------------------------------- Hey this looks pretty cool. Like Cervantes said, it looks like they're trying to make it somewhat of a learning language, like Turing. But unlike Turing, it's free! And unlike Turing, people in other parts of the world have actually heard of BASIC programming. From what I've seen on the site, it looks pretty cool. At least the GUI doesn't look like Windows 3.1. Waiting for my copy too. :) ----------------------------------- Cervantes Sun Oct 10, 2004 8:33 pm ----------------------------------- Uh oh, I spotted goto lines in the code in the screenshots. That's not good... :? the customizable GUI sounds intriguing :) ----------------------------------- Genesis Sun Oct 10, 2004 8:36 pm ----------------------------------- Uh oh, I spotted goto lines in the code in the screenshots. That's not good... lol. What would a BASIC language be without 'Go To' lines. Though for a learning language, that could develop bad programming habits. And yeah, the GUI editor looks pretty cool. ----------------------------------- shorthair Sun Oct 10, 2004 9:13 pm ----------------------------------- Just sent my email , looks like great fun to use ----------------------------------- Cervantes Mon Oct 11, 2004 7:56 am ----------------------------------- Got the email and signed up. Downloading now. :D the community on their forums seems very friendly. The only thing I'm worried about is people are saying that JustBasic is too powerful: if it is too powerful, there would be no reason to purchase LibertyBasic. Well, personally I hope they keep JustBasic pretty powerful, but I guess they should do what they must to make money. ----------------------------------- Carl Gundel Mon Oct 11, 2004 11:27 am ----------------------------------- Got the email and signed up. Hi, Just BASIC benefits from attaching itself to an already huge Liberty BASIC community, so it doesn't have to start from scratch. We have some great people. :) The only thing I'm worried about is people are saying that JustBasic is too powerful: if it is too powerful, there would be no reason to purchase LibertyBasic. Well, personally I hope they keep JustBasic pretty powerful, but I guess they should do what they must to make money. Don't be concerned. I don't think we're going to strip anything else out. -Carl Gundel http://www.justbasic.com ----------------------------------- Paul Tue Oct 12, 2004 6:45 pm ----------------------------------- Hmm... will learning it help me learn VB and other languages with the word "Basic" in it? ----------------------------------- Genesis Tue Oct 12, 2004 7:02 pm ----------------------------------- Not so much Visual Basic, but most others, yes. As many BASIC languages have very similar syntax. VB is more object oriented though, so it's a different type of programming all together. ----------------------------------- wtd Tue Oct 12, 2004 7:24 pm ----------------------------------- Visual Basic no longer is really a BASIC. It's a thin syntactic shell over C#. ----------------------------------- Carl Gundel Tue Oct 12, 2004 11:11 pm ----------------------------------- Hmm... will learning it help me learn VB and other languages with the word "Basic" in it? I've been told by some of my users that Liberty BASIC was very helpful as a primer for learning other languages including VB. Just BASIC shares most of the qualities of Liberty BASIC, and will doubtless also prove to be a good starter language. -Carl Gundel http://www.justbasic.com ----------------------------------- Carl Gundel Thu Oct 21, 2004 7:37 pm ----------------------------------- I thought you'd like to know that Just BASIC v1.0 is now out of testing and officially released! Download it at http://www.justbasic.com Thanks, -Carl Gundel
