You'll probally need to use a proxy of sorts. Either web based, or as a setting you change in internet explorer.

Hah! Get this... in my school, they blocked off all acess to the hard/cd drives/most commonly (ab)used sites... but they didn't take into account that the virus scanning software still had acess to those things!

All you gotta do now is open any Norton Antivirus common file dialog (and it makes it even easier that it's integrated into IE), and once you're there all you gotta do is type the path/url or what you're looking for and BAM!

Simple as that.

That's not even the worst part. We can't get to sites like GameTutorials.com! They're actually restricting my learning!

Remember: If you happen to find out who was responsible for that (email), sign the jerk up at every porn site you know about.

I've e-mailed Soucie already and complained. He says that it was his boss (I forget his name.) I am hoping to get certain sites unbanned. Most filters allow you to list sites that you want to override the rules. As for getting stuff back and forth attach them at compsci or if you can scrounge up $50 you can pick up a 128Meg. memory stick (Bestbuy has a few in that range)

Well I was reading the official memo sent out by the tech heads over at GECDSB, and they stated that they've blocked off any sites which include : Advertisement, Porn, Games, Web-Based E-mail, Downloads, Hacking, Illegal Activities. Although like Bugz said, it only seems to be blocking sites with the title in their URL, or located somewhere on the front page. Japanese sites and Misc. sites seem fine

They specifically stated that they've blocked off Hotmail, due to the amount of evidence they found that people use Hotmail at school to send death threats and viruses.
What's worse is their solution: Use some shit called gaggle.net. The site itself calls it a "teacher supervised" e-mailing system, which means your rights are thrown out when you sign up for it.

From the tone of the memo, they tech heads will be keeping these blocks as a permanent solution to the crap that's been going on in the networks.

In the meantime, like the comp sci teacher's have stated, you can still upload and download by using the Briefcase feature in Yahoo. Also, guardster.com is another good web proxy (though still no logging into e-mail accounts).

LOL, u think that messes with your rights just take a look in to lanschool if your school uses that. It see everything you do on the comp and can even send SS or let teachers wtach your screen from any where on the network. Alought it is horbly unscuery so realy any one can see what you are doing not just the staff and mess with what u are doing as well.

Yeah our school has LANschool installed. But isn't there some kind of restriction on when a teacher can view your work? I mean, I don't think my accounting teacher should be able to view my work when I'm logged in for my comp sci class right?

In most cases the teacher's aren't big enough jerks to check up on us, prolly only when we're playing games when we shouldn't be.
