from the original list of hearts/spades/bridge, I know hearts. I also know euchre, though that game is totally and completely boring to me now, after having played it so much during the lunch break of the winter months.
I want to learn Bridge, I'll learn that at least by this summer.
Anyone know how to play 500? Its the game between Euchre and bridge in terms of complexity.

Hmm...Bridge...such memories.

Seriously though, it's no fun playing Bridge on a computer. You NEED to have 3 other people there...there's so many intricacies to it...the way you read your partner's bids...and just the sheer joy of getting to call someone the Dummy!

I should start playing again.

500? Can't say I've heard of it. Euchre...played a few times...don't remember what it was though. It was quite some years ago, on this odd CD I had w/ about 12 different card games.

Anyway, Bridge is quite easy to learn, but not the easiest card game to get good at. The basics involve understanding that a 7 is higher than a 6. Then you go up a bit and say, well my 6 of hearts is higher than your 7 of clubs...due to trumps! w00t! Then, you go higher and say, well, this is no trumps, and that dude led with clubs, so your hearts are worthless! Muwahahaha. Then you go higher and say, well that's all well and good, but we just finessed your 7 of clubs out and now I will overpower it by playing my 8 of clubs! Muwahahahahah! And now you have no more hearts, since I've been counting, and we have 6 between us, allowing us to win the next three rounds at the least, by which time your ace and king of spades will have to have fallen, so as to protect your queen of diamonds that you need to take our remaining 7 and jack, but that won't matter, because we'll finish with my parter in the lead, so he'll lead me his lower spade and we'll beat down your [rear ends] and go up 3, seeing as you doubled, and we're vulnerable, you guys just lost 500 points! w00t that!

So, as I said, the basics are fairly simple.

Euchre anyone?

You looking for an ass kicking
I've played well over 5000 games of euchre, possible over 7000. I am at the point where there is nothing left to learn about the game, all I need is a partner which plays the same way and w00t.

yes no no (to the title question)

delos -> in euchre and in 500 you've got trump and following suit and strategy like that (well, not euchre... in euchre you only get 5 cards, very little possibility. in 500 you get 10 cards, in bridge you get 13).
I know the basics of bridge, and I'm reading through a book that goes over the rules. So far the only confusing thing to me is doubling and redoubling.

If i bid 2 spades, then that means I've got a good spade hand. Then, defenders (other team) are the ones who bid to double it right? That would mean, if they do, that they (or one of them) has a good spade hand too? And then my partner can redouble, which means he TOO has a good spade hand (or probably lots of aces and runs of another suit). Is that right? defenders can bid to double, partner can bid to redouble? Also, if that happens, (i bid 2 spades, defender double, partner redoubles) who makes the contract? me or my partner? I think it's me, am i right? :?

Anywho, I'll have you a game in a bit :)

vulnerablility just changes the scoring a bit... vulnerability is assigned to a team that has just one a game and the other team is not vulnerable. when your vulnerable and you make whatever you bid then you get more points and if you dont make, then your opponents get extra points... i forgot exacly how the scoring changes but check this link, it has all the scoring for rubber style bridge:

http://ca.games.yahoo.com/games/rules/bridge/bridgeendgame2.html

all the rules are there too....

a full rubber is best 2 out of 3 games right? so a team is vulnerable if they have won one game already? in other words, they are vulnerable if they can win the rubber next game?
