Building Dance Dance Revolution!

i've already posted this in the "game ideas" forum, but i could use help in re-creating the game Dance Dance Revolution, so far i have all menus ready to go and the user can select difficulty, song, and # of players. However when the game starts, music plays, but the GUI menus freeze and i cannot recieve user input :x , could use some help, please , respond if you would like to see source code

are you using the TURING GUI? Don't bother using them, in my opinion. 
You're better off making you're own guis from scratch.
