when i'm putting text out on the screen using put, is there any way i can clear it without clearing the screen?

you can draw over it with locates.
ie.

locate (1,1)
put "bla"
delay (1000)
locate (1,1)
put "bla 2!"
delay(1000)
locate(1,1)
put "":maxcol
