----------------------------------- SashaK Sun Feb 22, 2004 11:55 pm Competition for students: Imagine Cup ----------------------------------- Hello I just wanted to let everyone know about this programing competition run world wide. www.imaginecup.com There is the "algorithm challenge" there, which is basically brain teasers. Also, there is a Canadian competition at www.imaginecup.com/canada which is a programming competition. There are two more challenges(short film and rendering) and all of them can get you to the worldwide finals in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The team size varies depending on the challenge. The software challenge maximum team size is 4. The algorithm one (brainteassers)is 1 only. I thought I would let you know, there is a dedicated message board for the Imagine Cup, which can be found at www.theSpoke.net (url: http://www.thespoke.net/MessageBoard/MessageBoard_ViewThreads.aspx?subcatid=593 ) In the meantime, I'd recommend anyone intersted a national contest to check it out. First round is national, the second is global, with cash prizes for both. There are 4 sections; 2 related to graphics (rendering & short film), 1 for algorithms (see above posts) and 1 for a programming contest. And, I read in the rules that you don't need to attend the same university, I think for sure CompSci.ca should enter! Topple that with SasaK's help in finding resources, we'd be set!! Cheers, kevin
