.INI Files? Recalling Variables from external File.

hey, i'm making this app, 
and i want to take one of the variables from the RunTime, and 
stick it off on the HDD, so that the nexttime i run the program, I can recall the variable...

not sure what i'm suppose to do... 
thinking of using a ini file? 
but not sure how i'm gonna write the variable to the file, and then recall the variable afterwards.. 

any tips, pointers, suggestions, tutorials et cetera? ^_^
