Steve Jobs' death

-----------------------------------

Steve Jobs died today. No need to say this is a major event in the computer science industry. I'm not an apple fanboy by any means (though I'll defend my macbook to death) but Steve was the closest thing I ever had to a hero.

Definitely one of the best CEOs in my opinion - truly a sad loss.

Agree completely. He was one of the most amazing entrepreneurs out there, and one who actually contributed a lot to our perception of the IT industry today.

-I think that in a true meaning for memorial, we should leave out fanboy wars in this thread.

I don't think you realy want an open discussion about him on the day of his death as that would lead to many valid negtive criticisms. As such I will just ignore the topic intill it can be discussed with out the emotion of his recent death. With that side, cancer sucks and I hope his death encorages donations to cancer research and some of his estate will go in that direction.

Criticism, valid or no, can wait until the immediate time has passed.

Rest in Peace.

I mean I'm not an apple fan by no means, but I'm still very sad at this loss. He was the reason for Apple's success, and without him the company is going to be pretty lost. I'm not saying they won't recover, I'm just saying they lost a huge part of the company.

While I didn't agree with many of Steve's Jobs decisions later on his life, he was a great entrepreneur, and he advanced the computer industry amazingly with his ideas.

I will miss him, and I'm nervous about what the future holds now.

"There are those who will say that Laurene was lucky to share her life with Steve Jobs. I'd just like to thank her for having the patience to share him with the world."

Just in time for his official biography... now I just might have to read it. Truly fascinating how one person can achieve orders of magnitude more than most. He must have been an outlier of both talent and circumstances.

I'll always remember exactly where I was when I heard of Jobs' death: sitting at my desk, on my computer. I do that every night, so it's hard to forget.

Some real corporate respect as Google + Samsung have postponed their Nexus launch date due to Steve's passing (despite their patent battles).

It's ironic because in my comp. engineering class, we were watching Pirates of Silicon Valley last week. So I pretty much watched a biography of his life in school (although in that movie he wasn't exactly portrayed as the best person).

We've had some time. Steve Jobs was amazing to be sure, but I still have to say, I love what Bill Gates ended up doing a lot more. His charity has given away money equal to 10% of apple's net worth (which should just show you that's a LOT).
