CompSci Captchas

-----------------------------------

I was wondering if compsci could upgrade to a better capcha service? The current one is very inconvenient and hard to read. I think a more simple two phrase captcha with no scribblings across would be nice. And if spam increases due to that, please find a new way. Thanks.

OJJFQV didn't work

I got the second one using 99NS21 but it's still very hard to read.

If the captcha is easy to read then it will likely be easy for a bot to read.

I could look into reCAPTCHA, however their have been methods to tirck it in the past and the words it produces maybe just as hard to read in some cases (tho proably less offten then what we have now).

Lets see what other users think...

Capatcha is only used when registering?

I think it is fine unless there is spam then it needs to be improved.

I disagree...when I implemented reCAPTCHA on my school forum, we got attacked by 20 spambots everyday.

I find that the best solution is to set up Q&A: bots usually can't solve math word problems or specific questions.

reCAPTCHA is not necessarily solvable by bots; it's just widely used enough that it's economically feasible to have them be solved by human operators.

Use our DWITE setup to get users to solve one of the Q1 level problems, before signing up?

YES! That way, everyone would spend 10-15 minutes on the registration page...and it will eliminate noobs and bots    :vi:

No, just noobs, since someone will take the time to solve all of them, and put it in a bot :P

I guess I would have to take a compsci-dedicated bot to be some sort of a compliment...
