A little worried...

-----------------------------------

Hi, im in Grade 11 right now, and im applying to university next year.

My top priority is to get into either the University of Waterloo Computer Science or Software Engineering program. My issue is that in ICS3U (Grade 11 CS), i slacked off a lot, and received an 83 in the course.
Is computer science really important?. I am currently am taking Advanced functions right now and im getting an 87 and im doing well in other classes, but this is concerning me. I plan to take ICS4U next year and i plan to work really hard next year so is ICS3U really an issue?

Thanks.

No.

Neither is ICS4U. High school Computer Science is not a required course to get into UW CS. Although the whole "slacked off a lot" could get in the way.

Computer Sciences is probably a nice bonus, but no university course that I know of actually requires it. If ICS4U isn't one of your top 6 marks, it won't even generally be looked at.

The two grade 12 maths, on the other hand, are enormously important in terms of admissions

Adding to the two posts above, when I saw the admission requirements for the program in OUAC, it only required 1) English and 2) Advanced Functions. Just do well in that Advanced Functions course and you'll be okay next year. (Although I know English will be the main concern - it is for everybody as well lmao)

yess...i agree to that with 200% :P

two of my friend (who had higher average than me) got rejected from waterloo because of their math mark.

one had 72, and other one had 74

DO NOT let your mark go below 75 they put a HUGE weight on your math mark (i believe both calculus and advanced function)
like i had a 78 in english(heck! i even took summer school), 81 and 82 in chem and physics...

but i ACED my math classes (92 and 96) and got into SE and CS both.
