Restrictions on the laptop h.d.d

-----------------------------------

ok so my laptop died in my arms yesterday  it was old
so i took out the hdd and plugged it into a external reader so i could get my files off of it. I can access all the folders except for the old "My Documents" folder. it says that there is some kind of restriction... :S some of my school work was in that folder.
what do i do? is it some kind of encryption on the disk?

the laptop used to run win xp btw.

Wow that sucks...

I have a crazy idea though. What if you get another laptop (xp compatable), replace the hdd, and run it. And another idea is you can try installing the hdd on a desktop comp. Or try and do some customization to an external hard drive.

I'm just guessing at what to do cause it never happened to me.

Well I'm guessing that that is a good idea. Though I wouldn't know as it never happened to me.

Had this happen to me every time I reformatted my comp and tried taking files from my external. Without further ado, I present you a flowy-chart and the respected MicroSoft link should you destest my fine art.
