VB is not cheap.. its a different kind of language.. a RAD (Rapid Application Developmen) language. Not an ideal choice for large projects. 

But Delphi on the other hand is a lot more popular than VB and also being a RAD language, but has been used for some quite complex Applications.

It has a hybrid syntax of Pascal and BASIC.. something like turing, but different and most certainly better.
