Ipod problem

My friend is having problems connecting their Ipod to their computer. When they plug it in via USB every time they get the BSOD. I have absolutely no clue what could be causing this besides a general hardware problem.

Has anyone else heard or encountered this phenomenon, if so What is the fix.
