There are quite sophisticated methods to factor polynomials over the integers, for example. One way is to compute the factors modulo a prime and then reconstruct the factors over Z. Another way is to compute an approximation of a root, from which you can find its minimal polynomial. So then the starting point would be for you to describe the process in English (or Math, or whatever you are comfortable with), and then use that as the basis for the Turing version.
