recreate smb1 for nes in java

i have an idea :D i would like to recreate smb1 for nes in java

i think it would be an interesting project.

the scrolling screen and stuff would not be hard. u could load the entire level in one image in java.

recreating the engine would be interesting. i would have to make it act EXACTLY like the original

recreating the levels maybe hard, but i was thinking of just parsing the levels out of the original rom.

then after it is all recreated and working nicely, i could make it theme-able.

maybe add new concepts to the game and implement them in custom levels.

recreate features from other games like smb3. make the graphics look like the DS new smb. etc

it would be awesome :D

who thinks its a good idea? who has any more ideas for it? who would like to help?

who loves smb1? :]

i want to recreate the game, not edit the existing game

like recreate the engine and everything, build it all from scratch
