Im in first year engineering at McMaster...does anyone know of any sites or place where i can search for 4 month summer jobs related to engineering and programming?

Your school itself would be the best place to start. Assuming your staying within the area code, many companies will contact the school in hopes of picking up some intelligent students for a few months for cheap instead of hiring a qualified professional for far more cash.

most Universities now have some sort of a co-op program (which is what, I think, Vertico is referring to). I would imagine that a University would reserve the said system for the students enrolled into "co-op" (as oppose to regular) (because University's marketing team wants to brag about 90+% "employment" rates). Though if you are not in co-op and don't have access to the listings, there is little stopping you from finding a friend with access, finding out the companies, and applying outside of the system.

Umm, that's rarely the reason.  ;)   Employers are keen on hiring students as there are no "bad/other corporation's" habits to break.  Firms actually take some risk hiring students, as there is rarely experience, but there is POTENTIAL.
