How do you work jGRASP debugger?

How do you use the debugger in jGRASP? 
I ran a program pressing "debug", the program executes normally except for the debug panel being switch on, which has nothing on it. 
Then I set some break points, which did nothing to change the situation. I have JRE and JDK installed. Its like the debugger is dead.
Someone help?
