hey, remember how Well... old MS Word documents are not a document exchange format, but [url=http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080414-office-open-xml-out-of-microsofts-handsofficially.html]the ISO disagrees about any OOXML-based documents.  That being said, PDF files are still much easier for most people to open.

ISO might disagree in principal - but until you can find me a standards compliant OOXML-based document reader/writer for windows and linux and OS X then I would argue that it's a pretty useless standard.

I mean, when Microsoft fails to validate against their own standard... clearly it's not going anywhere any time soon.
