I thought its a base so i followed the text book method of oxidation and dissolve in water 2Na + O2 -> 2NaO NaO + H2O -> 2Na(OH) As you can see, I get sodium hydroxide which is not what i want...wtf... -------------------- How do you sythesize potassium sulfite? K2SO3 If you do the same thing as above you get potassium hydroxide (soap). -------------------- The text book listed the above 2 i guess irregular bases but did not explain how they are produced. Na(CO_3)_2 == Sodium Bicarbonate Where is the carbon in your synthesis reactions?
