Converting from string to int

GameFrame vx = new GameFrame();
         String getDx1 = vx.getVelocity();
         int getDx = Integer.parseInt(getDx1);

Gives me the following error message, but why:

if getDx1 have no value, which means it is a null, then you would expect a NumberFormatException
yes... yes... that must be why!! :roll: almost a hacker!!! :D:D
