I now that apple can get pricey but they do work great. IBM (or Lenovo) are not as expensive and i have not heard about any problems. The school gave some R series laptops to the "Special Needs" students. for me I would go more IBM then apple because I'm more of the windows guy.

EDIT: BTW

I perosnaly am in to the high powered laptops. They cost alot but you also get alot of computing power.

I used to go with [url=http://www.alienware.com]Alienware, witch makes very good qaulity laptops but is falling beheind in having the newest tehcnogly.

My lastlap top was from [url=http://www.eurocom.ca/]Eurocom. They have some of the most up to date hardware that you can not even find in laptops in most places. For example my new laptop is a intel quad core cpu when most stores are still selling duel cores. There laptops do not look as cool as alineware and are more blukly but they are fully upgradable.

If you are looking for most a cheaper model for just taking notes and surfing the web, i recomend hp laptops. They have some tablet laptops for in the $1000-1500 range that are packed with featuers and great for class.

Which laptop screen size should I choose -- 15 inch screen, or 17 inch screen? If battery life matters and you want something that will not kill your back, choose a 15" or smaller screen. A 17" screen would be good for a desktop replacement laptop, nothing else.

If you plan to take it to classes, in which case you'll be moving around a lot, think more between 12.1 and 14.1 inches.

If you like watching dvds or playing games on your laptop a 17" could be helpfull, but if this laptop is just for note taking then 15" is fine. the 17" can add alot of size, weight and cost to your laptop so it may not be a good idea unless you are going to use it.

Edit: it can also be hard to see over a 17" depending on how your clases are set up so it may not be the best option if your class rooms are very crowed and you have to look down on the prof since they use elviated seating. I guses it whould also matter how high up there tables are and how tall you are.

In my opinion, 17" is way too big and heavy, and defeats the purpose of having a laptop. You could always hook up an external display when you are at home watching movies or what not.

Thanks for all you guys' help! I bought an laptop. It's brand is HP, it has Windows Vista, has 15.4" screen, 2 GB memory RAM, and 200 GB harddrive. I am going to do a lot of computer programming on my new laptop, using C++. What else can I do on my new laptop, according to computer science? Another question is, is Windows Vista having new and better features than Windows XP?

Thanks,

J.

I am going to do a lot of computer programming on my new laptop, using C++.Seriously... there are other languages out there. Have a What else can I do on my new laptop, according to computer science? You can do anything you want.

Another question is, is Windows Vista having new and better features than Windows XP?A lot of its innards have been hacked apart and changed for the better. A lot of older devices refuse to work with it and your frame rates in games will drop, plus some software a lot of people rely on will not work with it anymore. Do the latter reasons count? :-)

ThanksYou're welcome.

Actually, rdrake, HP's 15" Pavilion laptops are pretty decent for the price. I suspect the one being described here has a 1.8GHz AMD Turion64 X2 processor, which is pretty respectable.
